PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage editorial calendar and workflow; proofread and review formatting of research reports and other documents. Update, maintain, and troubleshoot problems with CNA templates.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND/OR DUTIES

  1. Monitor and assign editing and other requests from authors; adjust and update schedule as needed. Track workflow from request to completion, ensuring deadlines are met and workload is spread evenly. Track monthly, quarterly, and annual volume of workload.
  2. Review documents for proper formatting (typefaces, spacing, alignment, etc.); correct or flag errors as needed. Documents may be MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, InDesign, or other file types, including online layout.
  3. Proofread documents to ensure accuracy.
  4. Maintain and update MS Word and PowerPoint templates.
  5. Keep abreast of trends in publishing software and digital deliverable platforms. Develop new skills as needed to help CNA use emerging technologies to its advantage.
  6. Troubleshoot formatting issues and ensure correct and consistent usage of templates, tables, styles, and layouts.
  7. Conduct training for authors, admins, and others using MS Word and PowerPoint templates.
  8. Review graphics for completeness and clarity.
  9. Check images and credit/source lines for copyright clearance.
  10. Follow standards of quality and style directed by CNA and its sponsors.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Graduate work or certification in publishing a plus.

2. Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience proofreading and format reviewing in a professional or academic environment, preferably working on research or technical material.

 

3. Skills:

  • Working knowledge of publication layout and design (print and digital).
  • Functional command of Standard English grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Advanced knowledge of template, styles, and layout features of Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat Pro.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Adobe InDesign/InCopy.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and use additional software programs, including Teams, EndNote, and SharePoint.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with direction and some supervision.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

4. Other: Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Security Clearance required. Active Secret Security Clearance upon hire preferred.

 

5. Remote/Hybrid Work Eligibility: This position is eligible for telecommuting or hybrid work arrangements at the discretion of the Supervisor. Employees may be required to work at CNA headquarters or other work locations resulting in changes to the scheduled telecommuting or hybrid work arrangements.
