The Wistar Institute Ellen and Ronald Caplan Cancer Center in Philadelphia is seeking a highly accomplished researcher as collaborative faculty at the Assistant and/or Associate Professor ranking in the area of Bioinformatics/Computational Biology.  Collaborative appointments are institutionally supported positions for individuals with specialized technical expertise. As such, effort not allocated to collaborative proposals are institute supported and appointee is not required to pursue a fully independent research program.  

A PhD. or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, or computational biology, with at least five years of broad experience in data analysis, is required. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated  an understanding of molecular/cellular biology, immunology and/or genetics.

 

The collaborative track faculty appointment includes a concurrent appointment as lead Director of the Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BSR) of our NCI-designated Cancer Center. The BSR Managing Director will oversee the recruitment, training and managing of junior bioinformaticians; supervise data processing and analyses, and participate in all activities related to maintaining Wistar’s NCI-Cancer Center designation, including writing annual BSR Cancer Center Support Grant progress reports and contributing to the Cancer Center renewal applications. Candidates with strong research accomplishments in target areas, strong publication record, strong analytical and technical skills, and evidence of contributing to NIH funding applications are encouraged to apply.
