Join the Vector Control team at the Health Department and become a key player in our mission to safeguard public health from mosquito-borne diseases. As a Seasonal Mosquito Technician, you'll work under the guidance of the Environmental Services Director to monitor and control mosquito populations in our community. This seasonal position offers an hourly rate of $18 and provides valuable hands-on experience in pest control and public health.

Position Summary: As a Seasonal Mosquito Technician, you'll play a vital role in our mosquito control efforts by responding to public complaints, collecting mosquito samples, treating breeding sites, and setting up traps. With a focus on protecting public health, you'll work diligently to mitigate the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in our community.

Responsibilities:

Mosquito Control Operations:

  • Respond promptly to public complaints concerning mosquitoes and take appropriate action.
  • Sample and treat bodies of water and permanent breeding sites to reduce mosquito populations.
  • Place and collect adult mosquito traps to monitor mosquito activity.

Public Education and Assistance:

  • Collect and provide mosquito fish to the public as a natural mosquito control measure.
  • Assist with night-time adult mosquito spraying when necessary to control mosquito populations.

General Duties:

  • Perform all assigned duties with efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective mosquito control operations.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior pest control experience preferred.
  • Availability for employment from April 29th to September 27th.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record to operate County-owned vehicles.
  • Knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and safety measures.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to read maps.
  • Capacity to conduct field visits and resolve related situations effectively.
