Interpreter

 

Consultant will perform consulting, interpretation/translation, as well as advisory, assessment and some outreach services to the Health Department.  Those services are as follows:

 

  • Provides education in patient’s native language (mainly Burmese) regarding diabetes, tuberculosis (TB) and other chronic health issues and infectious diseases. Provides interpretation and translation services as needed.
  • Assists Nurse Care Coordinators/Public Health nurses and other staff with case management and disease contact investigations.
  • Assists with transportation of TB clients to the Department of Health or outside appointments as needed to ensure treatment adherence.
  • Assists in community health assessments, public health investigations, and large emergency responses as needed.
  • Administers medication to active Tuberculosis (TB) clients as well as some Latent TB (LTBI) clients on a daily basis, as well as weekends, if needed/required. Completes documentation of medication administration.
  • Monitors for side effects of treatment and communicates any issues to Nurse Care Coordinators (NCC) or other staff as directed immediately.
  • Observes for adherence or any barriers to adherence and communicates these issues to NCC to address education of client on TB or otherwise.
  • Collects sputum from clients for testing. Administers and interprets TB skin tests (TSTs) in the field.
  • Assists in the connection of patients to Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) as needed.
  • Assists with scheduling, reminding and following-up on appointments especially for Burmese-speaking clients.
  • Assists with answering phones and inputting data for patients as directed.
  • Assists with transportation and interpretation of medically complex referral patients
  • Assists with assessment of and interpretation for lead poisoned children if needed.
  • Assists with education of tenants regarding insect and rodent infestations or other environmental issues.
  • Performs mental health screenings on patients if requested. Provides education regarding mental health to refugee patients.
  • Provides interpretation and translation duties to assist medical staff in all communicable disease/pandemic/outbreak case investigations and contact tracing activities as requested.
  • Provides interpretation and translation duties as well as all other duties assigned during any mass vaccination/prophylaxis event where such services are needed.
  • Daily and monthly report to supervisors. Performs all other duties as assigned to include assisting other departmental divisions while working with Burmese-speaking individuals.

 

TIME DEVOTED TO WORK AND PLACE OF WORK

 

Consultant agrees to devote up to, but not more than, thirty (30) hours per week (which will vary each week upon need and can be higher if agreed to in advance by the Department Administrator) in performing the services described in Section One. Consultant will provide services as needed at either the Medical Annex, Administration building, other designated location, or in the field.

 

 

STATUS OF CONSULTANT

 

This agreement calls for the performance of the services of Consultant as an independent contractor and Consultant will not be considered an employee of the Health Department for any purpose. Because this is an independent contractor relationship, the Health Department will not withhold, and is not responsible for withholding, FICA, federal, state or local income taxes, or taxes of any kind from any payments which it owes Consultant.  Consultant shall not be entitled to receive and shall not be entitled to workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, medical insurance, life insurance, paid vacations, paid holidays, pension or Social Security on account of his work for the Health Department.

 

 

PAYMENT

 

The Health Department will pay Consultant Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) per hour for up to, but not more than (unless as stated above), thirty (30) hours per week (and each week will vary) for all pay periods for 2024 and beyond until otherwise amended. Each year, the salary will be revisited, if applicable, and contracts will be revised if additional raises in pay are offered. In addition, if bonuses are ever offered to county staff, this position will be considered eligible for said bonus in accordance with whatever parameters are laid out by County Elected Officials or the County Auditor.
