The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.
The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.
The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.



RESPONSIBLE TO:      Employment Services Supervisor




To provide training and support to people with intellectual, developmental disabilities and other related disabilities in competitive employment.  The job coach will provide necessary training, support and follow-up services to support people to maintain competitive employment.  This includes working with businesses to ensure successful retention of the person receiving employment supports.




  1. Demonstrates professional demeanor and represents TRC in a professional manner at all times.


  1. Interacts with business partners and acts as a liaison with employers in resolving any work issues.


  1. Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with local businesses, the person receiving supports and the person’s team.


  1. Completes job analysis for potential job placements by collecting and documenting information regarding available jobs including skills required, hours of work, working environment, etc. 


  1. Effectively communicates with businesses regarding goals and methods of support.


  1. Provides on-the-job training at  job sites to assist the business in teach job skills


  1. Ensures the employer’s expectations are met. 


  1. Records and analyzes training records and measures/evaluates the person’s work performance.


  1. Provides other training and supports, including but not limited to:  travel training, orientation at the job site, facilitating the social integration of the person in the work environment, and money management techniques.


  1. Educates on soft skills and other related skills needed to obtain or maintain employment (i.e. attendance, hygiene, interview skills, resume building, interpersonal skills).  


  1. Assists the person they support, family and others in understanding Department of Labor and ADA regulations. 


  1. In conjunction with the person, ensures adequate and sustainable transportation to obtain and maintain employment. This may include travel training in various modalities including but not limited to bus, taxi, walking routes, identifying car pool options.  At times, for extenuating circumstances a Job Coach may have to provide transportation in order for an individuals to not be in jeopardy of losing a job, until more appropriative arrangements are solidified or if and emergent issue arises, such as a missed bus, or a late taxi .


  1. Provides long-term follow-up and regular evaluation of work performance to ensure a successful placement, this may include the review of performance evaluations, making on-site visits, discussion with a supervision or human resources staff member at the business at which they are providing support  and other interventions as required


  1. Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations as well as with agency and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.


  1. Communicate to Supervisor, Habilitation Specialist, Program Administrator, or specified others any ideas, suggestions and/or concerns regarding the service recipient, safety issues, department/agency policies, practices, etc.


  1. Participates in meetings as required.


  1. Completes required documentation in a timely manner.  Maintains all necessary records and, billing information



  1. Pursues opportunities for professional growth and share knowledge and resources with team.


  1. Assists in orienting new staff members and acts as a role model/mentor for those staff.  Promotes cooperation and teamwork amongst all individuals involved in the provision or receipt of services

Must have, Communication skills necessary to work with program participants, families, local business partners, and other agency personnel to achieve employment goals. 


Ability to:

  • Coordinate services among several providers
  • complete all required reporting in a timely manner 
  • learn educational/training techniques for the intellectual and developmentally disabled and other related disabilities. 
  • work successfully in diverse community based work environments.
  • learn the terminology, regulatory requirements, purpose and acceptable practices associated with each service provided.

  • work a flexible schedule on a variety of shifts and day, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Travel throughout the county to various sites within the day/ week.
  • Represent TRC in a professional manner at all times


Willingness to travel within the community.  Fulfillment of all regulatory skill certifications and all required trainings.  Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.  Must be flexible, highly persistent, patient, and motivated to work with difficult candidates, and possess a desire and ability to work unusual hours. 




Job Coach I: Grade 11

High school or equivalency diploma required.  Two (2) years of related experience in a job training capacity or Vocational Rehabilitation.  


Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to guidelines established by The Resource Center’s insurance carrier, use of personal vehicle and automobile insurance (minimum of New York State’s statutory requirements for personal liability) is required.



Job Coach II Grade 12


Eligibility for movement into a Job Coach II after 1 year experience as a Job Coach I, satisfactory SPR, all up to date internal training requirements completed and successful completion of 24 hours of Innovations Training specializing in Employment related training. 


6 hours of continuing education per year required after the first year and ongoing each year.
