SUMMARY:

During the school year, the Center for Arts & Culture at the JCC of Greater Baltimore offers an array of classes in dance and theatre, ranging in ages from 3 to 15 on the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Campus. These classes include, but are not limited to, production-based programs such as our current shows of Frog & Toad Kids and Matilda Jr, improv acting, devised theatre, tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and more.  

 

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Arts Education, the ideal candidate is enthusiastic and has an appreciation for the performing arts, is prepared to be a role model, loves working with children, and has a can-do demeanor. This internship will give candidates the opportunity to gain experience assisting classes, expand their resume and knowledge in dance and theatre education and administration.

Prior experience working with children and within dance or theatre is preferred but not required. Interns preferably have after-school weekday and/or Sunday availability.

This is an unpaid position.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Supervising students and keeping them on schedule, entertained, and safe in classes.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for students and staff.
  • Helping the Director of Youth Education with administrative and organizational operations to help the overall program’s success.
  • Represent the Arts & Culture when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Participate in other JCC Arts & Culture events as needed.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings and special events. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Preferred 1-2 years of experience working with or supervising children, ages 3-12.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of experience participating in dance or theatre program.
  • Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to be flexible.
  • Comfortable with Jewish culture.
  • Experience or interest in performing and/or visual arts. 

 

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is usually fast paced.  This job requires high energy and interaction with staff as well as with members, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others.  The workspace may be noisy at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

 

COMMITMENT:

Hours are flexible. Preferred weekday hours are roughly from 3:30-5:45 PM Monday through Thursday, Sunday hours are roughly from 10:00 AM-12 noon. Preferred commitment through winter and spring sessions from January 8th through March 19th and April 8th through May 30th . Flexible and possible extension of hours if desire to work backstage for mainstage production February 19th-26th . Required orientation and training before the session begins; exact dates and times are TBA.
