SUMMARY:

Our camp Music Specialist/ Song leader has the joyous role of bringing music to camp. Create the soundtrack to summer and build core memories for years to come. Group instruction will be both classroom style (Small groups up to 18) and large event based (Flagpole/Shabbat) to teach, sing, and/or lead campers in music-based activities. As an essential leader to the overall atmosphere of camp, this person should have presence and ability to motivate people of all ages and backgrounds.

 

Length of Position:

  • June 24th, 2024 - August 16th, 2024- approx. hours 8:15-4:45pm

 

Orientation

  • June 14th-11am to 5pm
  • June 17th-12pm to 5pm
  • June 18th- 12pm to 6pm
  • June 20th-12pm to 8pm-Back to camp night
  • June 21st-8:15am to 4:45pm

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Facilitate a dynamic song session during morning flagpole.
  • Infuse music and ruach into everyday moments at camp
  • Lead daily music programming periods with camp groups from age 4 to 14 (Activities are 35 minutes long)
  • Work with J life team to lead up to 5 periods of shabbat every Friday. As well as serve as musical leader for J Camps family shabbat.  
  • Plan and organize weekly activities.
  • Integrate new and creative songs and ideas into existing camp traditions
  • Create a safe, supportive, stimulating, and fun environment for campers, staff and families. 
  • Provide continuous, direct supervision during structured and unstructured activities.

  • Practice personal leadership skills. 

  • Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors. 
  • Model appropriate behavior for campers. 
  • Act as a musical resource to all of J Camps
  • Additional responsibilities as required. 

 

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Experience working with children ages 4-15, preferably in a camp setting. 
  • Experience in song leading.
  • Knowledge of songs and movement games appropriate for 4 - 8 year olds. 
  • Must have leadership skills, ability to motivate and manage groups of children.  
  • Knowledge of folk and camp songs  or open to the opportunity to work with Jewish songs leaders to learn camp/Jewish songs)
  • Bring an enthusiasm for Jewish music and camp songs
  • Be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision 
  • High school graduate and 18 years or older by May 30, 2024 preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate and 18 years or older by May 30, 2024 preferred.
  • Ability to play a musical instrument preferred

 

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend time sitting and using a computer, laptop or phone. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee will be required to be outside for extended periods of time and must be able to sustain time walking in hot temperatures.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The workspace may be noisy, at times.

Benefit & Perks: J Camps offers a complimentary family membership to the Jewish Community Center from June through December 2024. Discounts are also available on summer camp up to one camper for free and any additional camper(s) 50% off.
