SUMMARY:

The Nature Specialist will facilitate daily instruction to campers ages 4-12 in an outdoor environment primarily based in a wooded area. Most campers will participate in 1-2 nature sessions per week, depending on their age and their interests. Opportunity to use expert skills in a fun setting with wonderful staff perks!

Length of Position:

  • June 24, 2024 - August 16, 2024- approx. hours 8:15 am -4:45 pm

 

Orientation

  • June 14th- 11:00 AM- 5:00 PM
  • June 17th- 12:00 PM- 5:00 PM
  • June 18th- 12:00 PM- 6:00 PM
  • June 20th- 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM (Includes Back To Camp Night)
  • June 21st- 8:15 AM- 4:45 PM

*Also includes set up and lesson planning times*

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop an eight-week curriculum focusing on hands on nature/wilderness projects. Activities will be outside and should use the nature path and woods.
  • Supervise, participate, and administer nature activities for children in grades 4-year-olds to 6th grade.
  • Plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based.
  • Work cooperatively with camp leadership, counselors, and other departments.
  • Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to swimming, lunch duty and arrival and/or departure.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities.
  • Be a consistent role model for campers.
  • Set up, clean, and organize all nature equipment and nature campfire site
  • Ensure that the facility is kept clean and safe, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs.
  • Attending pre-camp staff training.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:

  • Experience at summer camp or similar environment preferred.
  • Formal or informal outdoor education preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with youth, specifically in Nature preferred.
  • Willingness to follow / give directions and work as a team member.
  • Strong leadership and organization skills
  • Willingness to work as a part of a team.
  • Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired.
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor setting.

 

WHO YOU ARE:

  • High school graduate and 18 years or older by May 30, 2024 preferred.

 

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for periods of time and in the outdoor elements.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Benefit & Perks: J Camps offers a complimentary family membership to the Jewish Community Center from June through December 2024. Discounts are also available on summer camp up to one camper for free and any additional camper(s) 50% off.
