SUMMARY:

This role has the exciting responsibility of creating and leading joyful Jewish experiences for families and their elementary aged children.  Year round, they will assist with large scale holiday celebrations and pilot a weekly afterschool program to ignite and strengthen Jewish pride.  In the summer, they serve the diverse J Camps Community. While supervising the Midot Specialist, they will use experiential education grounded by Jewish values to root activities and interactions with campers and staff. Overall, they will inspire an appreciation for Jewish peoplehood, blessings, shabbat and Jewish holidays.

 

Marrying the skills of empathy and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with children and adults, this person has respect for all types of practices and beliefs and a knowledge of and comfort level with Jewish wisdom, ritual and expression.

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • JFamily Engagement
    • Classes
      • Create and implement Jewish Pride afterschool or weekend program with Shinshinim that meets eight times over the school year.
    • Programs
      • Design and implement four innovative holiday programs focused specifically on engaging elementary age families.

 

 

 

    • Events
      • Build two community wide Shabbat experiences for elementary age families.  
  • WOW
    • Manage age-appropriate experiential learning opportunities for 3 large scale Jewish holiday and/or Shabbat celebrations for the community.  These may include the celebration of Sukkot, Channukah, Passover, Purim and Shavuot.  
    • Working with the JLife and the Gordon Team, this role includes preplanning, coordinating, and communicating details to both teams.
    • Oversight of registration and run of show.

 

  • Holiday Ambiance  
    • Responsible for working with our membership team to infuse our buildings with the spirit of the Jewish Holidays in ways that acknowledge, educate, celebrate and entertain our members and guests 
  • Camp
    • Represent J Life on the Camp Leadership Team 
    • Work with the J Life Team to develop an eight-week curriculum focusing on our 8 Jewish values. 
    • Create the overall atmosphere of joy in lifelong learning, rituals, and communal growth.  
    • Plan immersive orientation activities for staff during orientation week.  Prepare, educate and excite staff for the activities that will happen during the camp season.
    • Work cooperatively with camp leadership, counselors, and other departments to plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based.  
    • Work with all specialists to infuse Judaism into their activities and lessons.  
    • Work with the Music specialist and Director of J LIFE to plan weekly Shabbats.   
    • Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities.  
    • Be a consistent role model for campers.  
    • Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs. 
    • Work with the Logistics Coordinator and Program Director to order supplies for all Jewish Life activities.  
    • Attend pre-camp staff training.  

General

  • Must be available some scheduled nights and weekends.
  • Provide support to JLife team programs.
  • Act as the J Life data manager. 
  • Strengthen partnerships with synagogues, local agency organizations. 
  • Play an active role on the JCC Kadima management team. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Attend all JCC and departmental meetings and trainings as necessary or required 
  • Participate in all JCC-wide events as required

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Appreciation for and love of working with extended families. 
  • Comfort, appreciation, and joy regarding teaching Jewish content in creative ways to families and children. 
  • Can-do attitude, sense of humor and curiosity 
  • Excellent organizational skills, management skills and conflict resolution skills. 
  • Ability to establish, lead and work within diverse teams. 
  • Track record of successful program creation and implementation 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and portfolios at the same time. 
  • Summer camp or other Jewish immersive educational experience preferred. 
  • Must be available and flexible for evening and weekend hours. 
  • Willingness to follow / give directions and work as a team member. 
  • Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired. 

 

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is usually fast paced.  This job requires high-energy to maintain constant supervision during the day across the campus.   This job requires interaction with staff as well as participants with special needs and their families as with members, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.   

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary (or Salary Range): $40,000-$50,000
