For over 117 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.
The WIC Program offers eligible participants food benefits for healthy foods together with nutrition counseling, health education, farmer’s market vouchers, breastfeeding support, referrals to health care and social services. The program is dedicated to improving pregnancy outcomes, reducing the number of low birth weight infants, supporting and encouraging breastfeeding, and supporting the growth and development of infants and children.
STATEMENT OF THE JOB
The WIC Eligibility Clerk manages participant clinic flow and acts as a receptionist for the WIC Program. The Eligibility Clerk is also responsible for clerical functions which includes performing the necessary verifications for enrollment in the WIC Program (categorical, residential and income).
*Performs categorical, residential and income verification for WIC Participants and documents this information in NYWIC.
*Refers participants to the appropriate WIC staff for counseling and services.
*Provides and documents referrals to other health and social services agencies for participants.
*Schedules participants for appointments: nutrition education, initial certification, subsequent, high risk and food package changes.
*Issues eWIC card and associate eWIC account with record. Scan documents relevant to the current certification such as Medical Documentation Forms and Foster Care Documents.
*Assign Authorized Representative, Caretaker/Proxies, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
*H.S. Diploma, College Credits
*Spanish, Russian, Bengali required
*WIC experience preferred.
*Ability to work extended hours as needed (early morning appointments, evenings and Saturdays).
*Ability to travel through the five boroughs as needed.
*May be required to sit, bend, twist, & lift up to 25 pounds.
