GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, to be the lead worker for venue event set up and tear down such as after-hour rentals, internal events, and classroom rentals. Provides administrative support to the Event and Development team.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position does not exercise supervisory duties.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, to be an operations worker for annual Zoo events such as Boo at the Zoo and Christmas Celebration and after-hour rentals.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position does not exercise supervisory duties.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Perform set-up, serving, bussing, tear-down, and clean-up for annual Zoo events and after-hour rentals. Including the set up and tear down of tables and chairs, bounce houses, tents, and large and small décor such as hay bales, pumpkins, Christmas lights, set pieces, etc.

Operate City vehicles and small machinery including a golf cart, scissor lift, and fork lift.

Understand event details, timelines, and menu items.

Maintain cleanliness of Event Spaces, (e.g. keeps inventory neat, orderly, and litter-free, keep spaces clean and orderly).

Maintain a flexible schedule. Posted schedule may be subject to change based on operational needs such as weather conditions, guest attendance, and department needs.

Greet and direct rental contacts.

Maintain, inspect, clean, take inventory, and follow policies and procedures of assigned equipment, areas, and surrounding spaces.

Handle customer situations when needed to ensure guest satisfaction with rentals.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES

Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

General customer service.

The safe operation of equipment/vehicles.

Skill to:

Operate small machinery.

Manage time effectively. 

Provide excellent customer service and communicate clearly.

Interact with zoo guests in a professional and courteous way.

Ability to:

Work in outdoor conditions and in extreme heat and cold.

Work independently. 

Demonstrate a positive attitude and initiative.

Organize and plan work activities to meet deadlines.

Use resourcefulness and tact when dealing with upset customers.

Accommodate changing work priorities.

Communicate concisely both orally and in writing to both public and staff.

Follow and enforce the Abilene Zoo rules, policies and procedures.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Experience:

This is an entry level position, but preference may be given to individuals with previous customer service experience.

Education/Training:

A high school diploma, GED, or in the process of obtaining either is required.

License or Certificate:

A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.    

Special Requirements:

Requires staff members to be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that may include nights, holidays, and weekends.

Must be able to work in outdoor conditions and in extreme heat and cold.
