The Intermountain Academy currently supports children grades 1-12, with the provision of measurable academic achievement following an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) model.

General Summary:  Responsible for planning, developing, delivering and evaluating appropriate individualized adaptive physical educational services and instruction for special needs students in both self-contained and integrated settings, in consultation with other school personnel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops physical education curriculum appropriate to exceptional needs of students.
  • Develops short and long term learning goals and objectives according to program guidelines and the IEP.
  • Conducts daily classroom activities reflecting IEP goals and objectives.
  • Organizes games and challenges that promote physical activity among the children and young adults from kindergarten to high school.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals in the area of physical education.
  • Establishes and maintains student control and safety protocol in the gym and participation areas.
  • Establish an instuctional pace consistent with students' learning process.
  • Monitors student performance and progress, adjusting instruction as necessary.
  • Compiles and maintains necessary records and progress notes.
  • Plans and supervises the functions of teacher aides/assistants.
  • Facilitates extra-curricular physical education programs.
  • Serves as a substitute teacher in the educational classroom, as necessary.
  • Maintains an approved schedule and acceptable level of attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary as they relate to the general nature of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree required; coursework in adaptive PE preferred.
  • Experience - Experience working with special needs students in group situations and/or classroom environment preferred.

REGULATORY:

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Arizona Driver's License, 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration and liability insurance that meets insurance requirements.
  • Must possess Level 1 fingerprint clearance.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Initial current negative TB test results (employer provides).
