How you can make a bigger difference:
The Kaplan House (Manhattan) provides therapeutic and support services to adolescent’s ages 17-21 who are referred to us through ACS and the Juvenile Justice system. Our residents have experienced significant trauma, resulting in behavioral, emotional, and functional/ development issues. Kaplan House offers an extensive independent living skills program, including vocational preparation, and educational services that assists youth towards reaching independence.
Provides substance abuse assessments, intervention, prevention and counseling to residents at Kaplan House. Additionally, the coordinator will refer, monitor and coordinate any and all substance abuse services that are provided in and outside of the program for current and former residents. The Substance Abuse Coordinator is a member of the clinical team. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Completes substance abuse screening for all residents during the interview process and as needed.
- Participates in treatment team meetings, clinical meetings and service planning development meetings for residents such as Family Team Conferences..
- Orient new residents about substance abuse education, prevention and treatment services available on and off site.
- Facilitates groups for residents around substance abuse issues based on the need of residents. Reassessment of group needs required quarterly.
- Assigned the clinical/case planner role and responsibilities for residents deemed higher risk for substance abuse related issues.
- Document individual and group work in all of the electronic health records for the agency as well as the State system. This includes but is not limited to Connections, My Avatar, Alltrac (incident reports), critical incident reports, etc.
- Collaborate and educate staff on substance abuse issues as they relate clinically to residents behavior, functioning and risk.
- Identify and implement strategies for engaging residents in discussions regarding substance abuse and prevention.
- Create safety plans, collaboratively with relevant staff, for residents when indicated by substance abuse/clinical assessments.
- Other duties as assigned
The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented individuals of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:
- Licensed Masters level degree in, Social Work, Counseling or a related subject (with the ability to be licensed) Additionally, CASAC or CASAC eligible with equivalent experience in the field of substance abuse prevention and treatment a plus.
- A current, valid and clean Driver’s license is required for this position
