Accountable to:            Financial Reporting Supervisor         

Overview

Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, and reconciles reports and financial data. Prepares and maintains accounting records and misc. billings and general accounting operations.  Serves as back-up to others in the finance/accounting department.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Priorities

Major Areas of accountability

  • General
    • Applies the principles of accounting within a group of accounts within a given specialized area.
    • Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts.
    • Reconciles financial accounts in the general ledger within an assigned area of accounting. Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences.
    • Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with statutory accounting principles.
    • Prepares and maintains accounting records and misc. billings, supporting general accounting operations.
    • Assists in the development of corporate financials.
    • Serves as the back-up to others in the finance/accounting department. Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
    • Uses various software applications to manipulate, compile and/or format data and reports.
    • Maintains accurate process documentation of all assigned areas and continuously looks for and communicates ways to improve efficiency and effective of processes.
    • Assist with special finance and accounting related projects as requested.
    • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance related field or equivalent experience.
  • CPA preferred
  • Insurance experience preferred
