Job Summary:  Provide day-to-day support and related enhancements for Milwaukee County’s enterprise applications, technology, and related system integrations. Additional responsibilities include development of in-house knowledge and intellectual property for key business processes, data, and supporting applications and providing project support as required. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Designs database for software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with project team; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas. Creates technical database design documents.  Determines operational feasibility.    
  • Improves operations by conducting systems analysis Partners with user agencies to make government process more efficient through data processing re-engineering, data workflow automation, data integration, and enhanced business intelligence.     
  • Prepares and writes integrations, store procedure, views, triggers, ETLs, Reports and utilities. Responsible to work with Software Engineers in supporting full stack software engineering and development. Oversees database aspects of vendor created custom software.     
  • Researches and recommends the use of new database technologies and techniques. Keeps informed on changes in technology.      
  • Works with the and acts as Technical DBA in database tuning, deployment, and scheduling. Reviews user requests for service. Analyzes integration, reporting and database malfunctions.     
  • Protects operations by adhering to Security Best Practices. Designs and implements database solutions, reports, and integrations, which will maintain the integrity of Milwaukee County data. Maintains SDLC on database systems.     
  • Documents ELT test procedures and participate in software development process to perform all tests on database designs, and ETLs. Coordinates database and ETL testing and assists Business Analyst with user acceptance testing   
  • Provides end user, Business Analysts, and Project Managers, with technical information and advise on database systems. Serves as a database technical resource on various project committees and meetings. Mentors and trains team members.     
  • Supports system during non-business hours, both by being reachable, and by participating in an on-call process.  Completes all administrative tasks required for the position.
  • Completes other duties as asigned.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license required at time of application and maintained during incumbency.
  • At least Associate degree or higher in IT/MIS/Business/computer science related field.
  • At least One (1) year of experience in Microsoft Power BI required at the time of application.
  • At least Two (2) years of experience in Database Administration.
  • Prefer One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in the following: Database Application Development, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, Power BI Reporting and Visualizations, and database solutions. Prefer someone with Python scripting experience and data analytics skills.

 

Certification/License: 

  • Data Analytics Certification preferred.
  • Microsoft Database Certification preferred.

 

Additional Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to administer a variety of database systems including PostgreSQL, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server. Ensure databases are tuned and maintained for optimal performance.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of data processing, office automation, and computer programming
  • Use of Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of systems analysis.
  • Organizing work to meet deadlines, Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
