GIS Specialist

Department - Airport 

Hourly Range:  $28.70 - $33.60 per hour

Role Summary: Manage GIS projects, implement policies for creation and use of spatial and tabular data; coordinate GIS activities between Airport and other external agencies; participate in various projects working with special requests, special report preparations, and GIS presentations for Airport departments; develop, implement, and manage GIS data and it’s organizational structure/database; (cont. on page 6, section J, Additional Comments)

 

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Manage Activities Involving GIS Projects – Manages activities involving GIS projects. Develops and implements methodologies for creation and use of spatial data including editing, coding, and annotation of spatial data.

 

  • Consults with Internal Airport Departments - Consults with GMIA departments in the development of their GIS plans, goals, and objective. Coordinates GIS activities between GMIA and other external agencies. Participates in various projects working with special interests, reports, and GIS presentations.

 

  • GIS Data Development - Develops, implements, and manages GIS data and it's organizational structure/database environment. Functions as database administrator for all GIS related processes and projects utilizing Esri ArcGIS Sever and ArcSDE in a SQL environment 

 

  • Geospatial and Tabular Data Maintenance - Maintains GIS spatial and tabular data to provide users with the most current and accurate data available. Performs analysis on data to produce maps and reports requested by management and departments.

 

  • GPS Equipment Management - Maintains Trimble GPS Equipment to include base map configurations, account setup, end user training and use for collection, locating, and attribution of GIS data.

 

  • Maintain Enterprise GIS Applications - Develops and maintains services in support of Enterprise GIS Applications. Renews software licenses. Installs and trouble shoots software's updates and installs service packs.

 

  • Contractor Coordination - Coordinates with external agencies to facilitate sharing of spatial data. Assists and coordinates contracts with Enterprise GIS service providers to include software, hardware, and data development.

 

  • Trouble Shoot GIS Related Issues - Trouble shooting user issues with any Enterprise GIS and associated applications, including Cityworks, web services, EGIS mapping, applications, and Cityworks and ArcGIS software.

 

  • Create and maintain GIS spatial and tabular data; perform analysis on data, produce reports, and map requests; provide mapping, spatial analysis, training, and support for use of applications; evaluate department procedures and assist managers with developing efficient and effective organizational processes.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A current resident of the State of Wisconsin
  • A valid Wisconsin driver’s license and access to an insure vehicle both of which must be maintained throughout employment
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography
  • At least one (1) year of technical experience in GPS management, data collection
  • *Please note, five (5) or more years of equivalent experience in GIS, database creation and maintenance, data collection may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.

 

Licenses/Certifications/Training:

  • GISP preferred
  • ESRI training preferred

 

Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the State of Wisconsin. The selection process will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods.
