Responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. Responsible for the appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.

 

Hours: Sun OFF, Mon 10a-6p, Tues, Wed OFF, Thurs 10a-2pm, Fri 6am-2pm, Sat 6am-2pm (32 hours)

Location: New Britain, CT

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Correctly prepares or directs preparation of all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders.
  • Determines amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequate time for preparation.
  • Sets steam table; serves or ensures proper serving of food for tray line or dining room.
  • Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved.
  • Complies with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards. Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Stores food properly and safely, marking date and item.
  • Reports necessary equipment repairs and maintenance to supervisor.
  • Apportions food for serving.
  • Maintains daily production records.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean at all times; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation.
  • Completes food temperature checks before service.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
  • Prepares and serve food for special functions as assigned.
  • Maintains proper dress code and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Years of Experience

  • Degree:  High School Diploma Required. ServSafe certificate preferred.
  • Number of Years of Experience:  3 years cooking experience


Requirements

  • Must maintain and provide proof of valid driver’s license and automobile insurance in good standing.
  • Ability to problem-solve.  Ability to meet deadlines and establish and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstration of ethical behavior and sound judgment that supports the NASW standards of care.
  • Ability to travel to various agencies, businesses, if needed.
  • Able to work flexible hours when necessary.
  • Must meet and maintain all required trainings, certifications etc. as needed.
  • Uphold confidentiality by following the HIPAA regulations.
  • Must have moderate reading and writing skills.

Working Conditions

  • Working conditions are based both in kitchen and office settings. 
  • Local travel.
  • Possibility of exposure to outdoor weather conditions, unsanitary environments.
  • Possibility of exposure to use of substances, vulgar statements, or hostile/dangerous situations.
