POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager FP&A will report to the VP of Finance for the Steel Americas Division (the “Division”) and will be responsible for overseeing the financial planning and analysis process (i.e. budgeting and forecasting) as well as business decision support (i.e. customer bids and pricing, capital investments, etc.), performance monitoring, and assisting with key business development activities.  The Manager FP&A is a very important role in the Company that is expected to be able to communicate in a straight-forward and succinct fashion to a variety of stakeholders what financial performance is, and how and why it deviates from expectation. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Manager FP&A include the following:                  

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes for the Division, including coordination across various functions (commercial, operations, supply chain, HR, etc.) and plant locations
  • Serve as the key finance business partner to departments, assisting them in building out their planning models, evaluating investment cases, and leading monthly reviews of their actual vs budget performance
  • Support the development of Key Performance Indicators to measure business performance and support the culture of continuous improvement
  • Lead cost of manufacturing and inventory accounting including establishing and maintaining standards costs, plant level cost accounting, spend analysis versus budget, periodic analysis and KPI review, inventory policies, etc.  Simply put, if it matters to a plant manager then it matters to the FP&A team, FP&A is a key business partner to operations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of major performance drivers and assist business decision makers to develop plans to meet financial goals and mitigate risks
  • Collaborate with all levels of Management to understand what information is required for business decision making
  • Contribute to the development of financial strategies for a division or operating unit that align with the organization’s overall vision
  • Work closely with accounting to improve the overall efficiency of the finance organization as well as improve visibility and depth of understanding of all key financial metrics
  • Prepare financial analysis, and variance reporting (versus prior year and budget), including reporting results to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Lead the analysis and quantification of economics around all capital projects
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and reports, reduce manual reports to the extent possible by building framework and documenting processes along the way
  • Reinforce culture of data-driven decision making and support dissemination of general financial awareness and acumen

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA, CFA and/or MBA preferred

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in manufacturing industry is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities across jurisdictions/currencies is an asset

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent team player with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization (subordinates, colleagues, management) and across all functions/departments
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Proactive with the ability to anticipate and initiate action to meet the organizations needs
  • Adaptable with the ability to work effectively with diverse situations and personalities
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics AX
