General Description:
Scale for Change is seeking enthusiastic canvassers to serve as a part of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia PAC general electoral outreach campaign. As a Canvasser for a political field campaign, you will be on the front lines of grassroots outreach, engaging with voters, promoting political candidates, and mobilizing support. You will play a vital role in building relationships with community members and conveying the campaign's message to encourage voter participation.

Responsibilities:
This is an entry-level role reporting to the Canvass Manager. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

Canvassing Operations

  • Conduct door-to-door canvassing in assigned neighborhoods or targeted areas.
  • Engage with voters in meaningful conversations to discuss campaign issues, candidate platforms, and key messages.
  • Distribute campaign literature and other relevant materials to educate voters.

 

Voter Education and Engagement

  • Provide information on voter registration, early voting, absentee ballots, and other election-related processes.
  • Actively listen to voters' concerns, questions, and feedback and provide accurate and informed responses.

 

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Accurately record voter interactions, survey responses, and campaign data using provided tools or software.
  • Submit daily reports to the Canvass Manager or designated campaign staff, detailing canvassing activities and outcomes.
  • Contribute to data-driven analysis by sharing insights, observations, and trends from the field.

 

Campaign Representation

  • Serve as a representative of the campaign and maintain a professional and positive demeanor while engaging with voters and community members.

 

Training and Development

  • Participate in training sessions provided by the campaign to enhance knowledge of campaign messaging, talking points, and voter engagement techniques.
  • Continuously seek feedback and actively work on improving canvassing skills through ongoing training opportunities.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for political campaigns and community engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to adapt to various voter demographics.
  • Comfortable walking for extended periods and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic computer literacy to record and report data.
  • Passion for the campaign's mission and alignment with its values.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

 

There is no formal education requirement for this position.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior canvassing experience or familiarity with grassroots organizing is a plus.
  • Has strong ties in the community you are applying to work.
  • Licensed driver with access to a vehicle.

Salary and Benefits:
This is an hourly position with the Scale for Change, with an hourly rate of $18/hr. Based on performance, there is an opportunity to be promoted to a lead position that pays $20/hr. This is a short-term position with an expected end date of November 7, 2023.
