The Independent Retail Marketing Manager spearheads marketing campaigns specifically for accounts in the independent retail channel.  This includes managing the bi-monthly Simon Loves Indies bookseller newsletter, title-specific marketing assets, pre-order campaigns, social media promotion, and creating sales tools for Indie Team. The Marketing Manager is responsible for conceiving and executing seasonal marketing campaigns across imprints, such as Independent Bookstore Day, Indies First, Banned Books Week etc. The Marketing Manager works with the VP, Independent Retail Sales, to organize the Simon & Schuster Selects Pre-Publication Tour as well as Simon & Schuster Selects Endpapers and other virtual events.  The Marketing Manager works with the VP, Independent Retail Sales to organize Simon & Schuster’s Winter Institute presence as well as other ABA and Regional Association initiatives. This position works closely with Bookshop and The Marketing Manager is responsible for seasonal ARC and galley distribution to independent booksellers. This position works closely with each imprint’s marketing team to amplify their campaigns as well create new channel-specific initiatives in order to leverage marketing efforts into sales.



  • Strong prior experience in book marketing, including experience creating and executing marketing campaigns for a variety of titles
    Excellent verbal and written communication, copywriting skills, and interpersonal skills
  • BA or BS from a 4-year college
  • Fluency in key marketing strategies and tools including email and social media
  • The ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize effectively
  • The ability to work as part of a collaborative team, while also having the autonomy to craft and implement initiatives independently
  • Basic design skills/some Photoshop/Canva experience, knowledge of video editing and animation programs a plus
  • Proficiency in Edelweiss a plus
  • Forward thinker, energetic, problem-solver, strong work ethic, attention to detail
  • Passionate book person
  • Independent bookstore experience a plus

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
