Gallery Books seeks a romance editor to acquire and edit 12 books a year. Candidate should have four-plus years of experience in trade publishing and great enthusiasm for the genre.  

 

 Responsibilities

  • Acquires 12 romance and women’s titles with commercial and edits manuscripts for publication.
  • Shepherds manuscripts through production process and oversees all aspects of the publication process, including working with design to create marketable packages and with the marketing group to develop marketing plans.
  • Works directly with authors, agents, and all in-house departments.
  • Creates fact sheet, jacket, and catalog copy; reviews marketing material.
  • Conducts and analyzes sales research, with an understanding of P&Ls.
  • Presents titles at various sales meetings.
  • Negotiates contracts with agents.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant editorial experience
  • Acquisition and publication of multiple projects
  • Extensive experience reading in the romance genre both Indie and Traditional          
  • Established relationships with relevant agents and industry colleagues
  • Strong understanding and awareness of general marketplace within the industry
  • Strong presentation skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
