Job Overview

This is a role within the distribution center of Simon & Schuster, a 100-year-old company with offices around the world, that is also the only US owned book publishing house.   In this role you will be responsible for leading the Split Case Department.

What you will be doing on a daily basis:

  • Delegate and lead employees under the direction of the department supervisor for split case picking – sure sort and carton making.
  • Access the LM system, and WM computer system for replenishment and also access the AL voice picking system to release flags, check replenishments and wave inquires.
  • Work toward and ensure that committed waves are completed as scheduled.
  • Chase down cartons
  • Look up replenishments on computer.
  • Communicate with 1st shift group leader and 2nd shift supervisor for shift turnover.
  • Train new employees
  • Enforce safety and company policy and procedures.
  • Support and enforce LM standards.
  • Search WMS for inventory, when needed.
  • Operate RF Device
  • OT is required at the management’s discretion.
  • Oversee sure sort – batch and create sure sort orders for the next day and send report to all departments.
  • Responsible for communicating any issue brought to their attention to Supervisor/Manager
  • Assign work to the appropriate employees to ensure all the day’s work is complete.
  • Responsible for maintaining the split case and carton making when the Supervisor is off and complete the work pass down to the next shift


Some requirements:

  • You must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. 
  • Ability to accurately perform basic math calculations for inventory management.
  • You must have careful attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Some analytical experience is preferable.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate product handling and documentation
  • You must have the ability to stand for up to 8 hours/day

Shift and Schedule:

  • Our distribution facility operates in 3 shifts and this particular role is part of the afternoon shift, working Monday- Friday (1:00 PM – 9:00 PM).  There is an opportunity for overtime as well.
