Northern Illinois Academy, an 87-bed secure Residential Treatment Facility in Aurora, Illinois provides individualized care to children, teens, and young adults ages 6 to 21 with major mental health and/or developmental disabilities.   


Position Summary
 

NIA is looking for a Shift Supervisor on 2nd shift to monitor residents and provide supervision and support to Residential Counselors and Team Leads.  Evaluates staff performance and works with the Program Managers and Staffing Coordinator to ensure staffing needs are met.  Provides crisis intervention and responds to emergent situations.  Functions as a Residential Counselor when required.


Essential Job Duties

  • Rotates between the residential units to ensure that staff are properly monitoring residents, completing shift documentation and fulfilling other assigned duties.
  • Establishes and maintains a schedule for 2nd shift staff and makes adjustments to ensure that staffing needs are met.
  • Responds to crisis and emergent situations in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Evaluates staff performance by conducting supervision sessions, competency assessments and performance reviews.  Completes corrective actions as required.
  • Addresses and documents staff issues and responds to concerns.
  • Facilitates meetings and insures that staff receive adequate communication.
  • Insures that staff complete monthly facility trainings.
  • Interacts with staff and residents in a positive, respectful and professional manner.
  • Completes documentation accurately.
  • Takes an interest and initiative in the development of the group living team.
  • Completes additional tasks as required.

Job Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree is required.  A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Two years of residential child care experience.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
