About this opportunity:

The Divisional Director of Planned Giving (Legacy and Estate Planning) position will be responsible for engaging The Salvation Army’s donors in planned and deferred gifts, with responsibility for identifying prospects, designing, and implementing gift planning strategies, providing guidance in gift structures that achieve donor’s goals and stewardship of donors with deferred gift commitments, and lead the marketing program for the gift planning team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, administers, and supervises all phases of a Planned Giving Program for an assigned Division with a demographic potential and population that warrants an expanded staff.
  • Leads and supervises one or more Associate Planned Giving Directors supervision of one or more Associate/Senior Associate Planned Giving Directors and the additional responsibility of personal donor development.
  • Reviews, accepts, and submits all gift documentation and donor agreements including (wills, trusts, gift annuities, pooled income funds, IRA designations, Donor Advised Funds funded with gifts of stocks and property.
  • Plans and coordinates all public relations activities and ensures compliance with the promotional budget.
  • Complies with all reporting requirements.

  • Travel is in the following areas: Nashville, TN; Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green, KY.

You are an ideal match for the role if you have:

  • Four years’ experience performing progressively responsible planned giving work in a charitable organization with at least two years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred, but not required) OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in planned giving including all relevant rules, regulations, and programs, policies for meeting compliance with a variety of planned giving vehicles.
  • Affinity for the mission of a worthwhile Christian cause


Bona-fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ):

This position requires an active Christian faith in harmony with Salvation Army doctrine and practice.


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to work as a self-starter with limited immediate supervision.  Ability to maintain a high level of honesty, credibility, enthusiasm, and insight.  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform public speaking and represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner.  Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory on a frequent basis in order to perform responsibilities of the position.  

Works is performed in a normal Salvation Army or home office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts.  Ability to meet with donor prospects in their office or home where there may be physical discomforts and environment may not be handicap accessible.  Work also requires extensive travel throughout the assigned territory where there may be physical discomforts/dangers associated with driving a vehicle, changes in the weather and on-site visitation with potential donors and overnight hotel stays on a regular basis.

Oversight for the Divisional Director of Planned Giving position is provided by the Kentucky and Tennessee Divisional Headquarters, located in Louisville, KY.
