Position:             Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant

Position Type:   Overnight Residential - Temporary Full-Time

Pay Rate:            250.00 weekly.

About this opportunity:

Assists cook with preparing and serving nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.

  

 Key responsibilities:

  • Assists in the daily operations of the camp food service by assisting in the preparations of food as the menu indicates including washing and peeling, and store food and leftovers at proper temperatures.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
  • Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.
  • Assists in food preparations and service of food during meals, providing cooking supplies and replenishing service line.
  • Serves food and beverages in a presentable manner; prepares plates for infants or persons requiring additional assistance.
  • Assists in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside the camp dining hall.
  • Prepares snacks and prepares plates of food for people eating after normal serving hours.
  • Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen personnel practice proper personal hygiene.
  • Wears closed toe shoes; Shirts must have sleeves.
  • Assists cook in clean up after meal preparation and service.
  • Assists in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment such as clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
  • Assists with the cleaning of all areas in the kitchen.
  • Sweeps and mop kitchen floor nightly.
  • Keeps refrigerator clean and orderly, keep stoves and ovens clean, and keep grill clean.
  • Keeps the daily log on refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
  • Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe and economical manner; monitors expiration dates on all foods ensuring proper disposal of food with expired dates.
  • Assists with food inventory as needed.
  • Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory in order to meet the needs of the kitchen; orders, receives, and processes food purchases; verifies that invoices are accurate and submits for further processing.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Assists in coordinating and carrying-out arrangements for programs and special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • One year experience cooking food for large groups preferred, or
  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Counselor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.  Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information:

Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 4 – June 9, 2024, and participation is required. The 2024 summer Camp program session will be held June 10 - July 20, 2024. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
