ob Summary:

 

Drive Salvation Army trucks to scheduled route to pick up donations and deliver merchandise to customers; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations: lifts carry, loads, and unloads a variety of donations, including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and contributions at all times; assists in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse. Additionally, assist in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.

 

Confers regularly with the Warehouse Supervisor to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of Donations with the established policy; ensures items are picked up.

 

Assist driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading the truck at the warehouse.

 

Deliver appliances/or furniture as requested by customers.

 

Drive to the dump and metal recycling center to dispose of non-useable donations.

 

Ensures the truck meets the scheduled maintenance and performs operator maintenance with established standards.

 

Drives carefully and both observes and complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.

 

Parks the vehicle in a safe marked parking space and lock vehicle doors when the vehicle is not in use.

 

Fuel vehicles with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.

 

Logs all mileage on standard forms daily; completes collection forms daily; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

 

Sorting Room Worker

 

Receives inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, etc., according to the category and condition, schedules, and records donation pick-ups.

 

Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to the appropriate area for further sort and pricing; discards it with established procedures.

 

Tag items with specially coded ticks and with established procedures.

 

Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.

 

Packs items in boxes and marks, assisting in transporting container boxes to the appropriate storage area.

 

Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.

 

Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage, or displaying in-store; places and arranges things items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure things items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotated/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after being handled by customers.

 

Maintains warehouse neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.

 

Answers the store telephone tactfully and courteously; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directors and information.

 

Open/or close the store with the store schedule.

 

Other Responsibilities 

 

Assists in loading the bail truck.

 

Assists in cleaning and maintaining the store, warehouse, and loading dock area.

 

Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store.

 

Monitors the work of volunteers in the store.

 

Performs other related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience

 

High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred.

 

and

 

One year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van

 

or

 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Certifications/Licenses:

 

Valid Driver’s License with a DOT Health Card or the ability to get such a card.

 

CDL is a plus but not required.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of the assigned geographical area.

 

Ability to read and follow a map and handwritten directions.

 

Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.

 

Knowledge of effective customer service techniques

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics

 

Ability to sort items by established categories.

 

Ability to operate a cash register.

 

Ability to determine the condition of items by established standards.

 

Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

 

Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.

 

Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)

 

Ability to stand, walk, sit, and stand for extended periods and on a frequent change basis.

 

 

Working Conditions:

 

Work requires driving a vehicle and working in a warehouse with exposure to the outdoors, where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
