Job
Summary:
Serves as housing monitor;
accepts and processes residents staying in lodge/shelter overnight;
receives and receipts fees received from residents, if applicable; monitors the
activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate
and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that
lodge/shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.

Maintains Shelter Cleanliness
and Function (60%)
Ensures that all rooms are
in proper order before and after arrival of residents; checks fire equipment
and ensures proper working order.
Opens and closes the lodge/shelter doors at designated hours of operation, as needed
Completes and assigns
housekeeping and other tasks to residents when possible; ensures that clients
perform
assigned house duties in the proper manner; ensures compliance with house
rules.
Cleans Shelter and
completes laundry as needed.
Answers telephone and
responds to questions regarding the lodge/shelter operations.
Monitors Residents
(30%)
Monitors the activities of
the lodge/shelter residents ensuring safety and
compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors;
monitors and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique
situations occurring on assigned shift.
Distributes towels,
linens, and personal hygiene items; secures and distributes client medications
as required.
Serves meals as prepared
for clients during the designated meal times, as needed.
Responds to emergencies in
a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established
policies and procedures.
Wakes up lodge/shelter clients at designated time and instructs them to collect their
sheets; ensures that all residents are out of the lodge/shelter by the designated time.
Checks Clients into Shelter (10%)
Checks clients into the lodge/shelter;
prepares and monitors client intake cards; prepares resident roster and maintains
resident property records as needed.
Obtains clients signature
on forms as well as lodge/shelter rules and
regulations.
Completes required
paperwork representing client intake for the day.
Sorts client intake cards
in alphabetical order and files remaining intake cards of clients who did not
check into the lodge/shelter for the evening.
Other
Responsibilities:
Cover other Shelter
Monitor shifts during vacations, or absences of other staff.
Assists in preparing and
serving meals to residents as well as cleaning kitchen and dining area
afterwards as needed.
Collects and washes all
dirty towels and sheets.
Cleans, sweeps, and mops
the lobby, hall, television room and patios; empties trash cans and replaces
trash liners.
Cleans the parking lot and
outside area of cans, cigarette butts, trash, etc.
Directs clients to the
case worker and appropriate agencies for their special needs.

Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of general
office procedures and practices.
Knowledge of basic
recordkeeping practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate
effectively with clients in order to control, lead, and motivate behavior.
Ability to work with the
public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to work
independently with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and
procedures.
Ability to meet attendance
requirements.
Ability to read, write,
and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to
emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and
initiating the proper corrective action.
Ability to perform
combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education
and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
AND
one year experience
performing security or social service work preferred,
OR
any equivalent combination
of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements:
Limited amount of physical
effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light
objects (less than 25 Ibs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a
lodge/shelter facility where there are little or no physical discomforts
associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust,
dirt, and the like.
