Location:            Central Virginia Area Command – Boys & Girls Club. Richmond, VA

Position Type:     Regular, Full-Time

Pay Range:         $20.05 - $25.00

About this opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club Education Manager (grades 6-12), the STEM & Digital Arts Coordinator facilitates students’ exploration in science, technology, engineering, math, and art disciplines. Maintains designated studio and maker spaces for computer-based applications, robotics, multimedia arts, 3D design, and project-based learning.  Provides structured learning opportunities to develop youth’s digital literacy, interactive computing skills and design thinking capabilities. Creates personal connections to computing by drawing upon students’ creativity, imagination, and interests. Implements software and hardware requirements to support learning objectives. Recruits and coordinates volunteers to serve as classroom instructors and project mentors.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Education Managers to develop relevant and engaging curricula and projects.
  • Provides technical assistance to students on the use of computers and peripheral devices and developing projects, including helping them originate ideas, gather materials and get started.
  • Develops partnerships for internships, tutoring opportunities and professional development.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Associate’s degree in education, information technology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with technology based instructional strategies; prefer experience working with youth in a traditional or after-school setting.
  • Background working with educational software, tools and technology.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.  

 

Ability to multi-task, ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a safe and effective manners.  Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.  Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.  Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.  Ability to speak before small and large groups of people.  Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.  Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation.  Ability to operate office equipment.  Ability to lift or carry light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
