Day Camp Worker

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Temporary Summer Day Camp Worker for the Jackson MS Corps, located in Jackson, MS.

Job Summary:

Greets children and parents upon arrival to the camp; leads and/or participates in leading children’s activities at the day camp including music, arts and crafts activities, sports activities and specialized programs; prepares and serves children lunch and snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the day camp area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children. Ability to build effective and positive relationships. Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities. Ability to meet attendance requirements. .Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.

Experience and Education:

High school diploma or G.E.D. required, and two years’ experience teaching child development programs, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid state driver's license

C.P.R. and First Aid Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal camp environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
