Position Title: Camp Director

Position Type: Salary $50,000- $56,000

 

About this opportunity:

  • Candidate must be willing to live on site in Salvation Army provided housing.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, monitors and supervises the operations of Camp Hidden Lake; ensures all building and equipment are properly maintained and repaired; ensures that camp operations are in compliance with established policies and procedures; observes safety hazards; supervises and evaluates the work of all camp staff (regular and seasonal).

 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervises staff responsible for performing the daily operational duties of Camp Hidden Lake; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures for conducting work; monitors work for compliance with established program policies, procedures, standards, and regulations; conducts performance evaluations and makes salary and hiring/firing decisions.

 

  • Serves as host for outside rental groups; ensures the Camp Manager coordinates and oversees the provision of all rental group needs whether big or small; acts as the face of the organization to ensure that all rental groups are fully satisfied with their rental experience; coordinates activities with multiple groups.

 

  • Conducts meetings to inform staff of upcoming events, special projects, work priorities, Salvation Army policies and procedures; provides feedback on previous events.

 

  • Communicates and coordinates with the Divisional Youth Secretary to identify and recommend and assist with establishing short and long-range plans and goals to include renovation of present facilities, building of new facilities, and expansion of infrastructure for future programs; establishes operational mission and objectives for the stated facilities.

 

  • Meets with rental groups interested in using the facilities; conducts tours and explains rules and fees; ensures all staff is aware of bookings and event needs; serves as host to outside rental groups and liaison to Divisional Headquarters staff during special functions and events.

 

  • Reviews and approves all purchases of supplies and equipment within Salvation Army guidelines; establishes and maintains relationships with vendors; approves invoices and generates requisitions when needed; ensures the maintenance of all equipment inventories including the conditioning and replacement schedule.

 

  • Serves as a liaison to Divisional Headquarters staff during special events; coordinates and oversees the provision of all rental group needs; coordinates activities with multiple groups.

 

  • Prepares and distributes correspondence to vendors, rental groups, Territorial Headquarters Risk Management Department, Divisional Finance Board, government agencies, and various Divisional Headquarters departments; ensures that Camp Hidden Lake is in compliance with all ACA, risk management, health, legal, and regulatory standards.

 

  • Develops and maintains a calendar of events and functions; prepares any forms, reports or other paperwork as requested by Divisional Headquarters; develops and publishes promotional materials to improve the marketability of these operations.

 

  • Assists the Divisional Youth Secretary with preparing, maintaining, and updating rental policies, pricing, and risk management plan in order to ensure health, legal, and American Camping Association standards are maintained; attends conferences and seminars sponsored by the ACA to keep accreditation up-to-date  when requested; prepares all forms and presentation materials necessary for ACA inspection; communicates, coordinates, and assists the Divisional Youth Secretary with maintaining staffing and policy standing in connection with the summer camping program.

 

  • Supervises skilled maintenance and repair work throughout the physical plant and grounds including plumbing, electrical, construction, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work.

 

  • Oversees the preparation of the interior of each building for the summer camping activities and for specific user groups throughout the off-season.

 

  • Oversees the preparation of the pool prior to summer camp opening; maintain bath house in a safe and usable order; drain and close pool at the end of the summer camp season; ensures that the pool is operation according to the Mississippi Law.

 

  • Assists in securing outside contractors for service; explains maintenance and repairs desired/needed; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure quality and completeness of work.

 

  • Oversees the inspection, testing, adjustment, and repairs of all camp machinery, heating, cooling, piping, and electrical systems, and records maintenance in accordance with schedules.

 

  • Oversees the troubleshooting and repair of minor mechanical malfunctions and performing of preventative maintenance on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machines, vent fans, etc., of minor adjustments, and lubricating and cleaning of vehicles and/or equipment.

 

  • Constructs and repairs building structures – or oversees for larger, more complex projects, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture.

 

  • Oversees minor repairs to air conditioning system and ensures general maintenance of system.

 

  • Performs skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, and minor plumbing.

 

  • Oversees the repair of toilets, urinals, showers, drains, etc.

 

  • Checks and repairs pumps, fans, valves, and motors or oversees for larger, more complex projects.

 

  • Oversees the replacement of light bulbs, florescent tubes, spot lights, exit lights, and other minor lighting malfunctions.

 

  • Oversees various groundskeeping work.

 

  • Opens/closes buildings as scheduled; raises and lowers all flags daily; displays special signs as needed.

 

  • Oversees the pick-up and/or delivery of miscellaneous items or transporting of passengers.

 

  • Ensures proper maintenance of tools and machinery and ensures all tools are used carefully and as instructed.

 

  • Prepares accurate records for preventive maintenance.

 

 

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Hospitality, or related field,

 

and

 

  • Five years progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds,

 

or

 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
