Job Summary:


Acts as day-to-day supervisor to grounds keeping staff; performs a variety of grounds keeping work in order to maintain the health and beautification of grounds at Hoblitzelle Camp & Conference Center, mows and edges grass, trims trees/shrubs, blows leaves and debris from sidewalks; performs minor repairs and service of designated  equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities (10%)


Plans, supervises, and participates in the day-to-day of the grounds keeping staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; informs supervisor of any issues as they arise.


Grounds Keeping Responsibilities (90%)


Mows and weeds grass; edges lawns, sidewalks, and curbs.


Rakes, vacuums, and blows leaves and debris from sidewalks and parking lots.


Cuts-down trees; fills holes with dirt; trims trees and bushes; splits wood.


Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, etc.; moves flower beds; seeds new grass.


Collects and discards debris and trash from grounds.


Inspects grounds regularly to detect needed repairs or unsafe conditions.


Ensures water systems are properly operating at all facilities and sprinkler systems.


Other Responsibilities:

Cleans gutters of building as needed.


Assists in performing custodial and maintenance work as needed.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of effective and safe grounds keeping practices.


Ability to maintain the beautification of grounds including mowing grass, blowing leaves, and trimming trees/shrubs.


Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on tractors, mowers and other gas and diesel engines and equipment.




Education and Experience:

No formal education required,




One year experience performing grounds keeping work,




any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.





Physical Requirements:


Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting.  Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.

Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions:

Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
