Facilitates Water Fitness classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.


Up to 7 hours per week.  Weekdays and weekends.

1.    Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected, building relationships with and among members and program participants.

2.    Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, that align with the program goals and objectives.

3.    Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.

4.    Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.

5.    Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.

6.    Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.

7.    Follows department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces.  Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas.

8.    Keeps accurate class attendance records.

9.    Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

10.  Performs other duties as assigned.


  1. CPR/AED/First Aid certifications. (American Red Cross, HSI, and American Heart Association certifications are accepted.)
  2. Must have and maintain specialized certifications when required to instruct classes such as SilverSneakers Splash, Aqua Zumba, etc.
  3. YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred.
  4. Demonstrated ability and prior experience leading group water fitness classes.
  5. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
