The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-XII, seeks a Physical Education Teacher for a full-time, ongoing position beginning August 2024.

Responsibilities include:

  • teaching the PE curriculum, which includes fitness, wellness, and sport, as assigned in grades K-12
  • coaching the equivalent of two varsity seasons in the Middle and/or Upper School athletic program
  • competence in inclusive, anti-bias, anti-racist pedagogy
  • participating in and/or leading grade-level team planning meetings with PE colleagues
  • prioritizing the safety of students and athletes in all settings
  • helping to plan and execute school-wide events hosted by the PE and Athletics Departments.

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in the subject area
  • have at least three years of experience in teaching PE
  • have experience in and enthusiasm for teaching and coaching students
  • demonstrate the ability to develop and adapt pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments for students with a range of skill levels and learning styles
  • show a commitment to helping girls think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities
  • have excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • be able to articulate how one's identity plays a role in the classroom and on the field and model inclusive behavior in all settings.

Salary

In 2023-24, the total full-time salary for this position ranges from $75,100 to $143,500 depending on experience. Salary ranges updated annually at the end of January.
